Indie Game Project - Epic of Oscar Wilde

Epic of Oscar Wilde
This is a game prototype I made for a project where I took a random character from throughout history and placed them into another time period. For this project I was given Oscar Wilde and chose to send him to Ancient Babylon in a side scrolling platformer where he must traverse his own Babylonian epic as it gets drawn onto the page.
The main breakaway mechanic of the game to differentiate it from other platformers is that the player can "draw platforms" onto the screen by clicking with their mouse. This enhances the level design and allows for more decision making from the player in order to use this efficiently.
Gameplay of the Prototype
The sprite for Wilde went through many variations beginning as a 32x32 sprite then being upscaled to 64x64 and completely redesigned to fit the larger size and have a more pronounced pose which fits better with animations.
The game featured a level structure which sadly only had one playable level by the deadline for the prototype. However, this level went through multiple renditions and changed greatly due to constraints and difficulties implementing mechanics. The images below show the original level design on paper and the final level as shown in the prototype. The main change was the complexity of the level which had to be greatly reduced due to issues with jumping on spawned platforms. Also the first main jump being a leap of faith was cut as the idea of platforms coming into view as the player approaches was not implemented by the demo.
